Flooring apprentices can be employed either as contemporary or Modern Apprentices™. In both instances the curriculum for training is the same. The main advantage with the Modern Apprenticeship strategy is that each apprentice has a Co-ordinator who acts as a mentor. What are the benefits for apprentices?Training facilitated by the Flooring ITO provides apprentices with quality learning and guidance. As an apprentice you will receive day-to-day instruction from accomplished trades-people who know the industry well. Through this process you will be trained for a career in an exciting industry that offers good earning potential and an interesting variety of work. As skilled workers with a good attitude are always keenly sought after in the flooring industry. Apprentices in the flooring industry have day to day contact with a broad range of people, in varied domestic and commercial settings. They will work with quality products from both New Zealand and overseas and enjoy the satisfaction of carrying out challenging installations in prestigious situations. For young people aged 16 to 21 years the Flooring ITO offers training under the Modern Apprenticeships strategy. Under this strategy, apprentices receive the benefits of a traditional apprenticeship as well as the additional support of a Modern Apprenticeships Co-ordinator who will work with both the apprentice and employer throughout the entire period, to insure each apprenticeship is successful. National Certificate QualificationFlooring apprentices are enrolled in the National Certificate in Flooring, which is recognised by employers throughout New Zealand and overseas. The National Certificate in Flooring is made up of six strands:
Each strand is a qualification in its own right, or strands can be combined. Typically, flooring apprentices are enrolled in a combination strands. Apprentices receive most of their training in the workplace. They are also required to do additional study which normally takes place during block courses.
